I.B Time line 1948 to present dayputting in a few key dates that the children will know about.Explain what is meant by a decade and identify the 1950s on thetimeline.
Watch DVD : Britain Since 1948 ( BBCseries recorded from TV any other video material could besubstituted )
Ask pupils to tell you how we knowabout the past. List their ideas on the board
Show photos of Elizabeth then andnow. Identify who she is and explain we will be looking in moredetail at the Coronation
Show a photograph of part of theprocession and tell the children that there were millions of peoplelining the route that day.
Ask the pupils if these spectatorswould be able to see the Coronation service. Why not? These peoplewere eyewitnesses to the procession only. How did these peoplefind out about the service later? Refer back to the list on theboard. Show the photos and videos of partsof Coronation Service and explain that the only eyewitnesses tothis were the invited guests at the Abbey. Would these people havebeen able to see the whole procession? Why not? How did thesepeople find out about the procession later? Refer back to the liston the board.
Children to use newspaper writingframe to write eyewitness report. Transfer this to computer and inputsuitable photos from selection.
